Tip for Current Affairs: convert every rolling item you encounter into a four-field notebook — the event, the date, the primary actor and the associated body. Revising that notebook in the final fortnight is far more efficient than re-reading monthly magazines.
Current Affairs — the two-window strategy
MPSC Current Affairs questions come from two windows: (a) the previous twelve months of national and international events; and (b) the last five years of static current affairs — awards, appointments, sports championships, summit locations, government-of-India schemes launched. The rolling window covers new laws, budgets, indices, treaties and headline events; the static window covers the sedimented facts that no longer move but must still be memorised. Almost every MPSC paper draws about 60 percent of current-affairs items from the rolling window and 40 percent from the static window.
For the rolling window, the two authoritative sources are the Press Information Bureau (pib.gov.in) daily bulletin and the annual Economic Survey; supplement with the monthly Yojana and Kurukshetra magazines. For the static window, focus on: Nobel laureates by year and category, Padma awardees split by field, national sports achievements (Olympics, Asian Games, Commonwealth Games, World Cups), Prime-Minister and President appointments across democracies, and G20 / G7 / BRICS / SCO summit venues.
